Cosmetic tattooing, also called permanent makeup, is the process of implanting color pigment beneath the surface of the skin by a sterile, disposable needle to produce the appearance of enhanced beauty features. In the case of microblading, super fine, hairlike strokes are implanted into the skin with a manual tool to mimic the look of real hair. The goal is to always make the brows look as natural as possible. It is important to note that your natural brow density, shape, and thickness will have an impact on the overall outcome. Microblading blends best and looks the most natural on brows that have fine hair that has a somewhat even density distribution. Some brows may need multiple sessions over time to build up the desired density if you have coarse, dark brow that are thin. WILL IT HURT? Topical and secondary lidocaine numbing gel is provided at each appointment to ensure your service is as comfortable as possible. Although topical numbing cream is great for pain relief, it can sometimes affect the skin texture during the procedure. Some artists will choose to forgo topical numbing as it can provide better results. A secondary numbing cream is then applied after the skin is broken to ensure comfort for the duration of the appointment. HOW LONG DOES MICROBLADING LAST? Microblading will fade over time and may need a touch-up every 1-2 years (after the initial 6-12 week touch up). The frequency of touch-ups depends on several factors, including the pigment color used (lighter colors fade faster), lifestyle (sun exposure), and if any active skincare comes into contact with treated areas and medical reasons. For example, retinols, BHAs, AHAs, or any other chemical exfoliants will cause microblading to fade faster as their main function is to increase cell turnover, thus causing the skin to shed and repair at a faster rate. Please note that final results can not be guaranteed as each unique skin type will hold pigments differently and break down at different rates. WHAT IF IM PREGNANT OR NURSING? Per the health department and as a precaution to avoid any complications, I do NOT perform cosmetic tattooing on anyone pregnant or nursing. CAN I GET TATTOOED IF IM UNDER THE AGE OF 18? In the state of California, you must be 18 or older to get tattooed (regardless of guardian permission). A valid drivers license will be required to verify age at your appointment. Failure to present a valid ID will result in cancellation of your appointment and forfeiture of your deposit. A new appointment will need to be booked with a new deposit. WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE FOR MY APPOINTMENT? If you have an ideal shape, style, and color in mind, bring a few reference photos with you to your appointment. But keep in mind everything is completely customized based on your face shape, wants and needs. Ideally, I prefer for you to come to your appointment without brow makeup or foundation on your forehead. We will measure and customize a shape that we both are happy with before starting any microblading. If there are any stray hairs that fall outside of our final shape, we can remove them. If you feel it it’s necessary, you may fill in your eyebrows prior to your appointment so we can get a sense of what your daily makeup routine is like. (Especially if you’re super picky with your daily shape). I also request you avoid prescription blood thinners (if possible) for 24 hours prior to your appointment. This also includes Vitamin E, Aspirin, fish oil and ALCOHOL. Excessive bleeding due to medication or alcohol will make it hard for the pigment to properly implant into the skin. If you are currently using a retinol (Retinol A, tretinoin, differin) You must discontinue use for 2 weeks prior to your appointment. Retinols can cause the skin to be sensitized, dry, and prone to tearing. Please avoid caffeine the morning of your appointment. Yes, you can resume caffeine right after your appointment! WILL I NEED TO CALL OUT OF WORK AND GO INTO HIDING AFTER MY APPOINTMENT/DURING HEALING? Nope! Although your microblading will look great immediately after, you may have some redness, especially if you have sensitive skin. Your microblading will appear darker and bolder than expected for the first few days. This is due to the tiny thin scabs that will form over each hair stroke we created. Do not worry as this is just a normal part of the process and not how the brows will look once healed. Your brows will eventually start to flake these tiny scabs over the next few days. During this time is normal For them to look splotchy. Once all the shedding has occurred, the brows will go through a very light looking phase as they will be muted by the fresh skin that has healed over the microblading. In 4-6 weeks your skin will have gone through a regeneration cycle and once that baby skin sloughs the pigment will be brought to the surface again- thus finally showing the true healed results. Basically, you will need to give your brows 2 weeks to heal free of makeup, swimming, and sweating. Please give up to 4-6 weeks to see the lighter, softer healed results. After 6 weeks, you will be ready to come back for your follow up appointment. Detailed aftercare instructions will be explained and provided to you at your appointment. WHY DO I NEED A TOUCH UP? Microblading is a 2 step process. Consider your initial appointment the foundation layer. During healing, the brows tend to shrink a little in size and you might also have some fading or pigment fallout. The 6-12 week touch up allows us to address any areas that need to be filled in, and also it’s our chance to build on the foundation layer. We can go bolder, thicker, darker and more dense if desired. Once you have done your 6-12 week touch up, your brows should last about a year (depending on various factors such as lifestyle, skincare products, immune system, skin type/texture, sun exposure, heath issues etc. sometimes additonal touch up sessions are needed. You can expect to come back anywhere from 1-2 years for a yearly touch up to continue to keep your brow shape and color maintained. WILL I STILL HAVE TO USE BROW MAKEUP? Maybe! This really all depends on the natural brow you are starting with and your desired outcome. If you already have decent brows but just need a little more density and definition, microblading itself might be all you need. However if you have very thick and coarse brow texture that is densely packed, and you want a different shape or thickness, microblading itself may not provide the necessary density, and you maybe want to consider a different method, such a shading or ombré brows. At this time I only offer microblading. Microblading is meant to look light and airy- especially the style I like to do. So please keep that in mind when choosing an artist versus your desired outcome. WHAT WILL MY MICROBLADING LOOK LIKE IN THE LONG RUN? WILL IT CHANGE COLORS? Pigment formulations have advanced over the years to help prevent the brows from turning undesirable colors. The majority of my clients' microblading stays true to color. There are some cases, however, where colors may fade too different tones according to the individual’s response to the pigments (like lifestyle and iron deficiencies etc). Many factors affect these changes. WHAT CAN I DO TO TAKE CARE OF MY BROWS LONG TERM? As with any tattoo, sun exposure will make your microblading fade faster. The speed at which this happens depends on your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, pigment color used, iron deficiency, and if any active skincare was used after cosmetic tattooing. If you are planning a chemical peel, MRI or other medical procedure, please inform the technician that you have had a cosmetic tattoo. Careful application must be taken to avoid affecting the tattooed area. If you are planning to have laser treatments, tell your laser specialist to avoid the pigmented area WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR MICROBLADING? Someone who has normal to dry skin, smooth texture, and small pores. This person also has fine brow hairs that are not thick and coarse. A good candidate also has young, firm, supple skin. WHO IS NOT AN IDEAL CANDIDATE? -Very oily skin with orange peel texture and large pores. -Very dense, dark, coarse brows that are thin in shape and wanting to go thicker. (Microblading is meant to have spacing between strokes to archive a natural and airy look. Therefore this technique will be very hard to match the density required for very dense, coarse brows. 1Mature skin that has lost collagen and elastin, and is therefore very thin, prone to tearing, and sagging will not heal well with microblading. Other cosmetic tattoo methods will be less traumatic to mature skin such as nano, shading, or ombré. WHAT ARE CONTRAINDICATIONS? Contraindications are medications, heath issues, or skin issues that make you ineligible for microblading. If any of the following apply to you, please do not book an appointment.
